Every wonder why all the vegetables in the supermarket look the same week after week? That’s because most commercial growers only grow one or two varieties of each vegetable. These varieties are grown for one reason and one reason only. How many tons per acre can we grow in a season or in other words: yield. Commercial farmers could care less about what they taste like.
This is where we come in. We love growing veggies for taste, texture, and quality!. Since we are a small family farm, we can select varieties that taste amazing! Many of these varieties have disappeared over the years or are in danger of disappearing. Slow Food, USA has compiled the Ark of Taste, a list of endangered foods by region. Three Goat Farm has committed itself to growing as many varieties as we can for our region. We have been growing heirloom tomatoes for several years and in recent years has started growing other heirloom veggies. Every year during planting season we always have someone bringing us wonderful treasure seeds that some relative brought to America years ago. There is alway a great story to go with the gift and often a wonderful recipe to use with the veggie. We hope to start cataloging these seeds, stories and recipes to share with you all as well.
